Pembroke’s Ryan Wallace excels at Silver Lake Regional High School

Ryan Wallace, resident of Pembroke and son of Brian and Diane Wallace, is a student that has excelled in the Career Technical Program of Metal Fabrication and Welding Technology at Silver Lake High School this year.

Ryan has been trained in blueprint reading, symbol application and lay-out, as well as safety procedures for the use of industry standard equipment and machinery. Ryan has been an integral part of this program and has contributed greatly to many projects the Metal Fabrication and Welding program has produced. Ryan has shown his dedication not only in his shop endeavors but also to his academics as he maintains a 3.5 GPA which includes AP Calculus this year. Ryan not only stands out academically but is also a leader in the community.

This past year Ryan received the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout.  Ryan‘s Eagle Scout project involved planning and restoring a local park and bridge. After over 185 hours of planning and construction, Kingston residents now have access to a historical park they can enjoy. Ryan is planning to continue his education by attending a four-year college majoring in engineering.

Each town in the commonwealth that operates state-approved Ch. 74 Vocational-Technical programs is eligible to nominate one student for this award, which is presented by the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA).  Ryan will receive the award on April 25th at Mechanics Hall in Worcester at a dinner banquet that will be attended by Lt. Governor Tim Murray.

“We’re extremely proud of what Ryan has accomplished at Silver Lake.  He’s a very strong candidate for this award, well balanced in his success academically, technically as a metal fabrication welding student, and through his community involvement,” said Elliott Glass, Director of Career Technical Education at Silver Lake High School.

“He’s learned valuable skills and we know he’ll be successful in whatever he sets out to do in life.  He’s a great welder and comes to school each day with a positive attitude and solid work ethic.  He already has acceptances to 4 year colleges for engineering.”
