United Temperature Services Inc., located at 8919 Middlebelt in Livonia, is celebrating 38 years in business this year. Michael Kelly, service manager of the heating and cooling business, answered the following questions:
Tell us about your business, including the types of services and/or products you feature.
United Temperature Services is a full-service heating and cooling company. We sell and install furnaces, air conditioners, humidifiers, air cleaners, boilers, water heaters, garage heaters and custom-made duct work. We also repair all brands of residential furnaces and air conditioners as well as boilers and commercial systems.
In our showroom, we display a few of the many heating and cooling systems available for your home. We have staff available to answer your questions or find your filter, humidifier pads and other parts for repair from our warehouse. They can be purchased at the store, or if you prefer, they can be brought to your home and installed by a technician.
Filters, filters, filters — we carry a wide variety of filters in stock, but if we don’t have it, we can usually get it.

United Temperature Services takes the time to educate customers before they make a purchase. Every manufacturer makes many models. It is important to understand the benefits and cost differences in each to make an informed choice. It’s not complicated or confusing; it simply takes a little time to have it explained in layman’s terms. A customer wouldn’t want to find out about a feature that interests them after they’ve already purchased another model.
We have one of the largest facilities in the area with a sheet metal fabrication shop, warehouse and showroom. Having this facility allows us to explain to customers the features, benefits and operation of a particular piece while looking at it. It’s also helpful when showing someone how to change a filter or humidifier pad. When you’re able to demonstrate how it’s done on the actual equipment, the customer gets a better understanding and is more comfortable with the process. The staff members available in the showroom have knowledge of all aspects of heating and cooling equipment and are there to help. Our technicians are experienced. They have the ability to fix your problem. They will visit your home, make necessary repairs, and make it a pleasant experience.
