Tioga metal fabrication shop burns – Williamsport Sun
TIOGA – Northern Tier Fabrication, a metal fabrication shop at 17208 Route 287, burned Tuesday. According to Tioga Fire Chief Bill Preston, several people reported the fire about 7:13 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the southern end of the building was well involved, Preston said.
According to Preston, there was an apartment in that section of the building, but he didn’t know who lived there, just that no one was in the building.
Preston said the bitterly cold temperatures hindered firefighters’ efforts to get the blaze out using water from tankers and also from a 5-inch hose run to the Crooked Creek, which lies about 1,500 feet from the scene. It took about three hours to extinguish the blaze, Preston said.
Preston reported no injuries as a result of the fire, to which dozens of firefighters from about 10 area departments responded.
Preston said he will conduct an investigation and then determine whether or not to have the state police fire marshal get involved.
“At this point, the fire cause and origin is unknown,” he said.
